Houston City, Harris, Fort Bend and Montgomery counties, Texas is a city located in the Southern Region (West South Central) of United States. As of 2000 the population was 1953631. The city's estimated population as of July 2008 was 2242193, giving it the largest population among Texas. The city extends throughout a territory of 601.69 sq mi (1558.37 kmē ), of which, 579.42 square miles (1500.69 kmē) of it is land and 22.28 square miles (57.7 kmē) of it is water, it is the largest in terms of geographical size. It is ranks eighth in the size of its inland waterways in Texas.

According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 1953631 people, 717945 households, and 457549 families residing in the city. The population density was 3371.7 people per square mile (1301.82/kmē), it would be the 47th most densely populated city in the U.S. state of Texas. There were 782009 housing units at an average density of 1349.6 per square mile (521.08/kmē). The average household size was 2.67 people, and the average family size was 3.39 people. In the city the population is diverse age-wise, with 27.5% under the age of 18, 11.2% from 18 to 24, 33.8% from 25 to 44, 19.1% from 45 to 64, and 8.4% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 99.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.8 males. The median age was 30.9 years, The median age of males and females living in Houston City was 30.2 and 31.8 years respectively. The racial makeup of the city was 962610 White, 494496 Black or African American, 8568 American Indian, 103694 Asian, 1182 Native Hawaiian, 61478 from two or more races and 321603 Ohter races.
