Hopkins County is a county located in the United States of Kentucky. In 2000, county's population was 46519 inhabitants. Its population was estimated at 46338 in July 2008, making it Kentucky's 20th largest county. The county encompasses an area of 554.23 mi˛ (1435.45 square kilometre ), of which, 550.56 square miles (1425.94 square kilometre) of it is land and 3.67 square miles (9.51 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the ninth largest in terms of geographical size.

The population density was 84.5 people per square mile (32.63/km˛), making it the 38th most densely populated county in Kentucky. There were 20668 housing units at an average density of 37.5 per square mile (14.48/km˛). The average household size was 2.43 and the average family size was 2.91. In the county Population was distributed with 24.2% under the age of 18, 8.3% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 24.6% from 45 to 64, and 14.7% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 91 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.7 males. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 46338, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 42526 White, 3025 Black or African American, 98 American Indian, 213 Asian, 10 Native Hawaiian, and 466 from two or more races.
