Hopatcong Borough is a borough located in Sussex County, New Jersey, in the Northeastern Region (Mid-Atlantic) of United States. As per the 2000 census, borough has a population of 15888 inhabitants. In July 2008, its estimated population was 15491, It is New Jersey's 91st largest by population . It is spread over 12.34 miē (31.96 kmē), of which, 10.96 square miles (28.39 kmē ) of it is land and 1.38 square miles (3.57 kmē) of it is water, giving it the 22nd largest by total area among New Jersey.

The median age is 35.7 years, the median age of male residents at 35.5 and the median age of female residents at 35.9. The racial makeup of the borough was 93.1% White, 1.95% Black or African American, 0.11% American Indian, 1.8% Asian, 0% Native Hawaiian, 1.61% from two or more races and 1.42% Other races.
