Hood River County is one of the 36 county of Oregon, located towards the Western Region (Pacific) of United States. In 2000, county's population was 20411 inhabitants. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 21536, making it Oregon's 25th largest county. The county comprises an area of 533.56 miē (1381.91 kmē), of which, 522.35 square miles (1352.88 kmē) of it is land and 11.21 square miles (29.03 kmē) of it is water, making it Oregon's second smallest county by total area.

As of the census of 2000, there were 20411 people, 7248 households, and 5175 families living in the county. The population density was 39.1 people per square mile (15.1/kmē), making its Oregon's 16th most densely populated county. There were 7818 housing units at an average density of 15 per square mile (5.79/kmē). The average household size was 2.7 persons, and the average family size was 3.15 persons. In the county Age distribution was 28% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 29.4% from 25 to 44, 21.5% from 45 to 64, and 12.9% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 98.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 99.2 males. In July 2008, its estimated population was 21536, The racial makeup of the county was 94.71% White, 0.91% Black or African American, 1.36% American Indian, 1.43% Asian, 0.21% Native Hawaiian, and 1.39% from two or more races.
