According to the 2000 census it had a population of 2414 inhabitants. It is the 68th largest in terms of population. The census designated place extends throughout a territory of 40.23 mi˛ (104.2 square kilometre ), of which, 38.03 square miles (98.5 square kilometre) of it is land and 2.2 square miles (5.7 square kilometre) of it is water, making it the seventh largest by size in Hawaii. It is ranks 15 in the size of its inland waterways in Hawaii.
