Holt County is a one of the county from Missouri's 115 counties and independent city, located in Midwestern Region (West North Central) of United States. The county has a population of 5351 as per the 2000 census data. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 4905, It is Missouri's seventh least populous county. The county spans an area of 469.05 mi˛ (1214.83 sq km), of which, 461.87 square miles (1196.24 sq km) of it is land and 7.18 square miles (18.6 sq km) of it is water, makes it the 22nd smallest by total area in Missouri.

The population density was 11.6 people per square mile (4.48/km˛), it is the tenth least populated county in terms of population density. There were 2931 housing units at an average density of 6.3 per square mile (2.43/km˛). The average household size was 2.35 and the average family size was 2.91. In the county Age distribution was 23.8% under the age of 18, 6.5% from 18 to 24, 24.4% from 25 to 44, 23.9% from 45 to 64, and 21.5% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 97.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.8 males. The July 2008 population estimate is 4905, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 4819 White, 5 Black or African American, 28 American Indian, 4 Asian, 1 Native Hawaiian, and 48 from two or more races.
