The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 41445, It is the 29th least populous county in the U.S. state of Ohio. The county extends throughout a territory of 424.02 mi˛ (1098.21 square kilometre ), of which, 422.99 square miles (1095.54 square kilometre) of it is land and 1.03 square miles (2.67 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 54th largest in terms of geographical size.
