Hoke County is a United States county located in the United States of North Carolina. In 2000, the population was 33646. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 43409, It is the 58th largest county by population in the U.S. state of North Carolina. The county encompasses an area of 392.34 mi˛ (1016.16 sq km ), of which, 391.21 square miles (1013.23 sq km) of it is land and 1.12 square miles (2.9 sq km) of it is water, giving it the 30th smallest by total area among North Carolina's county.

The population density was 86 people per square mile (33.2/km˛), it is North Carolina's 57th most densely populated county. There were 12518 housing units at an average density of 32 per square mile (12.36/km˛). It has an average household size was 2.86 persons, and the average family size was 3.22 persons. In the county the population was spread out, with 29.8% under the age of 18, 10.7% from 18 to 24, 34.1% from 25 to 44, 17.6% from 45 to 64, and 7.7% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 102 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 101.3 males. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 43409, The racial makeup of the county was 53.15% White, 34% Black or African American, 9.53% American Indian, 1.06% Asian, 0.16% Native Hawaiian, and 2.09% from two or more races.
