Hoboken City is a city located in the Hudson County, New Jersey, United States. According to the 2000 census it had a population of 38577 inhabitants. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the city is 40577, It is the 32nd most populous in the U.S. state of New Jersey. The city extends throughout a territory of 1.98 square miles (5.13 square kilometre ), of which, 1.28 square miles (3.32 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.7 square miles (1.81 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 294th largest by area in the U.S. state of New Jersey.

As of the census of 2000, there were 38577 residents, 457 households, and 284 families in the city.
