Hitchcock County is a county located in the United States of Nebraska. As of 2000 the population was 3111. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 2836, It is the 24th least populous county in the U.S. state of Nebraska. The county has a total area of 718.57 mi˛ (1861.09 sq km), of which, 710.03 square miles (1838.97 sq km) of it is land and 8.54 square miles (22.12 sq km) of it is water, it is the 35th largest in terms of geographical size.

For every 100 females there were 95 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.6 males. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 2836, The racial makeup of the county was 2789 White, 3 Black or African American, 13 American Indian, 5 Asian, 0 Native Hawaiian, and 26 from two or more races.
