The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 840, It is the least populous county in the U.S. state of Colorado. It is spread over 1123.14 miē (2908.92 kmē), of which, 1117.68 square miles (2894.78 kmē ) of it is land and 5.46 square miles (14.14 kmē) of it is water, giving it the 41st largest by total area among Colorado's county.
