Hinds County is a county in the United States of Mississippi. As per the 2000 census, county has a population of 250800 inhabitants. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 247650, making it Mississippi's largest county. Its area is just over 877.35 mi˛ (2272.33 square kilometre), of which, 869.18 square miles (2251.17 square kilometre) of it is land and 8.16 square miles (21.13 square kilometre) of it is water, makes it the fifth largest by total area in Mississippi.

As of the census of 2000, there were 250800 people, 91030 households, and 62315 families living in the county. The population density was 288.5 people per square mile (111.39/km˛), it is the second most densely populated county in the U.S. state of Mississippi. There were 100287 housing units at an average density of 115.4 per square mile (44.56/km˛). The average household size was 2.64 and the average family size was 3.22. In the Hinds County, 27.9% of the population was under the age of 18, 12.1% were 18 to 24, 28.9% were 25 to 44, 20.1% were 45 to 64, and 11% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 88.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 83.5 males. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 247650, The racial makeup of the county was 31.77% White, 66.25% Black or African American, 0.29% American Indian, 0.76% Asian, 0.05% Native Hawaiian, and 0.88% from two or more races.
