Hightstown Borough is a one of the Mercer County, New Jersey, located in Northeastern Region (Mid-Atlantic) of United States. In 2000, the population was 5216. The July 2008 population estimate is 5295, It is the 278th most populous in the U.S. state of New Jersey. The borough has a total area of 1.25 miē (3.24 kmē), of which, 1.23 square miles (3.19 kmē) of it is land and 0.02 square miles (0.05 kmē) of it is water, making it the 117th smallest by size in New Jersey.

As of the census of 2000, there were 5216 people, 457 households, and 284 families living in the borough. The population density was 4251.9 people per square mile (1641.67/kmē), making its New Jersey's 148th most densely populated borough. There were 2081 housing units at an average density of 1691.9 per square mile (653.25/kmē). The average household size was 2.6 and the average family size was 3.15. In the borough Population was distributed with 22.5% under the age of 18, 8% from 18 to 24, 36.8% from 25 to 44, 21.9% from 45 to 64, and 10.8% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 103.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 101.2 males. The median age was 35.5 years, the median age of male residents at 34.9 and the median age of female residents at 36.2. The racial makeup of the borough was 3992 White, 444 Black or African American, 19 American Indian, 119 Asian, 4 Native Hawaiian, 135 from two or more races and 503 Ohter races.
