Hightstown Borough is a one of the Mercer County, New Jersey, located in Northeastern Region (Mid-Atlantic) of United States. In 2000, the population was 5216. The July 2008 population estimate is 5295, It is the 278th most populous in the U.S. state of New Jersey. The borough has a total area of 1.25 miē (3.24 kmē), of which, 1.23 square miles (3.19 kmē) of it is land and 0.02 square miles (0.05 kmē) of it is water, making it the 117th smallest by size in New Jersey.

As of the census of 2000, there were 5216 people, 457 households, and 284 families living in the borough. The population density was 4251.9 people per square mile (1641.67/kmē), making its New Jersey's 148th most densely populated borough. There were 2081 housing units at an average density of 1691.9 per square mile (653.25/kmē). The average household size was 2.6 and the average family size was 3.15.
