Highlands County is a county located in the United States of Florida. As per the 2000 census, county has a population of 87366 inhabitants. The July 2008 population estimate is 100011, giving it the 34th largest population among Florida's county. The county spans an area of 1106.28 square miles (2865.25 sq km), of which, 1028.27 square miles (2663.21 sq km) of it is land and 78.01 square miles (202.04 sq km) of it is water, makes it the 19th largest by total area in Florida.

In July 2008, its estimated population was 100011, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 87730 White, 9465 Black or African American, 521 American Indian, 1309 Asian, 39 Native Hawaiian, and 947 from two or more races.
