Highland City is a United States city located in the Sharp County, Arkansas, United States. Highland City had an official population of 986 in 2000. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 1085, It is the 203rd largest by population in the U.S. state of Arkansas. The city spans an area of 8.8 sq mi (22.79 sq km), of which, 8.74 square miles (22.64 sq km) of it is land and 0.05 square miles (0.13 sq km) of it is water, making it Arkansas's 54th largest by total area.

As of the census of 2000, there were 986 people in the city, organized into 403 households, and 310 families living in the city. The population density was 112.8 people per square mile (43.55/kmē), it is the 41st least densely populated city in the U.S. state of Arkansas. There were 501 housing units at an average density of 57.3 per square mile (22.12/kmē). The average household size was 2.45 persons, and the average family size was 2.78 persons. In the city the population was spread out, with 24.3% under the age of 18, 6.1% from 18 to 24, 23.3% from 25 to 44, 25.7% from 45 to 64, and 20.6% who were 65 or older.
