Hickory County is a county located in the United States of Missouri. In 2000, the population was 8940. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 9048, It is the 21st smallest county by population in the U.S. state of Missouri. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 411.74 square miles (1066.4 kmē), of which, 398.63 square miles (1032.45 kmē) of it is land and 13.11 square miles (33.95 kmē) of it is water, it is the sixth smallest by area in the U.S. state of Missouri.

The population density was 22.4 people per square mile (8.65/kmē), it is Missouri's 74th most densely populated county. There were 6184 housing units at an average density of 15.5 per square mile (5.98/kmē). The average household size was 2.26 persons, and the average family size was 2.7 persons. Age range in the county was well distributed with 19.9% under the age of 18, 5.3% from 18 to 24, 19.1% from 25 to 44, 29.7% from 45 to 64, and 26.1% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 96 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.7 males. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 9048, The racial makeup of the county was 97.59% White, 0.08% Black or African American, 0.71% American Indian, 0.1% Asian, 0% Native Hawaiian, and 1.53% from two or more races.
