Hickman County, Kentucky is a county located in the Southern Region (East South Central) of United States. The population of the county was 5262 as per the 2000 census data. The July 2008 population estimate is 4936, It is Kentucky's third least populous county. The county spans an area of 252.94 square miles (655.11 sq km), of which, 244.44 square miles (633.1 sq km) of it is land and 8.49 square miles (21.99 sq km) of it is water, it is the 32nd smallest by area in the U.S. state of Kentucky.

As of the census of 2000, there were 5262 people, 2188 households, and 1542 families living in the county. The population density was 21.5 people per square mile (8.3/kmē), it is least densely populated county in Kentucky. There were 2436 housing units at an average density of 10 per square mile (3.86/kmē). The average household size was 2.34 persons, and the average family size was 2.82 persons. In the county the population is diverse age-wise, with 22.1% under the age of 18, 6.9% from 18 to 24, 26.7% from 25 to 44, 25.9% from 45 to 64, and 18.5% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 91.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.9 males. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 4936, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 4317 White, 526 Black or African American, 15 American Indian, 6 Asian, 0 Native Hawaiian, and 72 from two or more races.
