Hertford Town is a town in the Perquimans County, North Carolina, United States. In 2000, the population was 2070. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 2185, It is the 264th largest by population in the U.S. state of North Carolina. The town extends throughout a territory of 2.72 square miles (7.04 sq km ), of which, 2.69 square miles (6.97 sq km) of it is land and 0.02 square miles (0.05 sq km) of it is water, it is the 305th largest in terms of geographical size.

As of the census of 2000, there were 2070 people, 877 households, and 557 families living in the town. The population density was 768.5 people per square mile (296.72/kmē), it is the 297th most densely populated town in the U.S. state of North Carolina. There were 1041 housing units at an average density of 387 per square mile (149.42/kmē). The average household size was 2.29 people, and the average family size was 2.92 people. In the town the population was distributed as follows: 27.1% under the age of 18, 7.5% from 18 to 24, 22.7% from 25 to 44, 20.7% from 45 to 64, and 22% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 78 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 69.7 males.
