Hermitage City is a city in the Mercer County, Pennsylvania, United States. Hermitage City had an official population of 16157 in 2000. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 16327, It is the 50th most populous in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. The city extends throughout a territory of 29.58 sq mi (76.61 sq km ), of which, 29.47 square miles (76.33 sq km) of it is land and 0.11 square miles (0.28 sq km) of it is water, it is the eighth largest by area in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania.

As of the census of 2000, there were 16157 people, 6809 households, and 4618 families living in the city. The population density was 548.3 people per square mile (211.7/kmē), it is the 242nd least densely populated city in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. There were 7104 housing units at an average density of 241.1 per square mile (93.09/kmē). The average household size was 2.32 persons, and the average family size was 2.87 persons. In the city the population was distributed as follows: 21.7% under the age of 18, 5.5% from 18 to 24, 24.6% from 25 to 44, 24.7% from 45 to 64, and 23.6% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 87.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 83.4 males. The median age of the city's population was 44.1 years, The median age of males was 42.5 years, for females the median age was 45.4 years. The racial makeup of the city was 15344 White, 500 Black or African American, 7 American Indian, 130 Asian, 1 Native Hawaiian, 138 from two or more races and 37 Ohter races.
