Herkimer County is a one of the county from New York's 62 counties, located in Northeastern Region (Mid-Atlantic) of United States. According to the latest population census dating back to 2000, the Herkimer County is home to 64427 inhabitants. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 62200, making it the 41st most populous county in New York. The county has a total area of 1458.35 sq mi (3777.11 square kilometre), of which, 1411.25 square miles (3655.12 square kilometre) of it is land and 47.1 square miles (121.99 square kilometre) of it is water, making it the ninth largest by size in New York.

The population density was 45.7 people per square mile (17.64/kmē), making it the seventh least densely populated county in New York. There were 32026 housing units at an average density of 22.7 per square mile (8.76/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.46 persons, and the average family size was 2.99 persons. In the Herkimer County, 24.4% of the population was under the age of 18, 8.3% were 18 to 24, 26.6% were 25 to 44, 24% were 45 to 64, and 16.8% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 94.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.7 males.
