Haywood County, Tennessee is a county located in the Southern Region (East South Central) of United States. As per the 2000 census, county has a population of 19797 inhabitants. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 19024, giving it the 30th smallest population among Tennessee's county. It is spread over 534.15 square miles (1383.44 kmē), of which, 533.2 square miles (1380.98 kmē ) of it is land and 0.95 square miles (2.46 kmē) of it is water, it is the 31st largest by area in the U.S. state of Tennessee.

According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 19797 residents, 7558 households, and 5418 families in the county. The population density was 37.1 people per square mile (14.32/kmē), it is the 15th least populated county in terms of population density. There were 8086 housing units at an average density of 15.2 per square mile (5.87/kmē). The average household size was 2.59 and the average family size was 3.09. In the county the population was spread out, with 27.2% under the age of 18, 9.8% from 18 to 24, 27.3% from 25 to 44, 21.9% from 45 to 64, and 13.8% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 87.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 82.4 males. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 19024, The racial makeup of the county was 49.37% White, 49.68% Black or African American, 0.15% American Indian, 0.19% Asian, 0.05% Native Hawaiian, and 0.55% from two or more races.
