Haywood County is a county in the United States of North Carolina. According to the latest population census dating back to 2000, the Haywood County is home to 54033 inhabitants. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 56590, It is 47th most populous county in North Carolina. Its area is just over 554.62 sq mi (1436.46 square kilometre), of which, 553.66 square miles (1433.97 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.96 square miles (2.49 square kilometre) of it is water, making it North Carolina's 35th largest county by total area.

In the county the population was spread out, with 20.8% under the age of 18, 6.2% from 18 to 24, 26.9% from 25 to 44, 27.1% from 45 to 64, and 19% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 108.6 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 112.8 females. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 56590, The racial makeup of the county was 54833 White, 859 Black or African American, 304 American Indian, 159 Asian, 21 Native Hawaiian, and 414 from two or more races.
