The city has a total area of 63.04 sq mi (163.27 kmē), of which, 44.33 square miles (114.81 kmē) of it is land and 18.71 square miles (48.46 kmē) of it is water, making it the 23rd largest by size in California. It is ranks 12 in the size of its inland waterways in California.
