Hayes County, Nebraska is a county located in the Midwestern Region (West North Central) of United States. The population of the county was 1068 as per the 2000 census data. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 1005, It is the 12th least populous county in the U.S. state of Nebraska. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 713.33 mi˛ (1847.52 square kilometre), of which, 713.11 square miles (1846.95 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.22 square miles (0.57 square kilometre) of it is water, making it Nebraska's 40th largest county by total area.
