In 2000, census designated place's population was 2178 inhabitants. It is Hawaii's 72nd largest by population . The census designated place encompasses an area of 106.48 sq mi (275.78 sq km ), of which, 102.01 square miles (264.2 sq km) of it is land and 4.47 square miles (11.58 sq km) of it is water, making it Hawaii's largest by total area. It is ranks third in the size of its inland waterways in Hawaii.
