Hawaii County is a county located in the United States of Hawaii. The population of county in 2000 stood at 148677 as per the Census data. Its population was estimated at 175784 in July 2008, making it the second most populous county in Hawaii. It has total area of 5086.7 square miles (13174.49 kmē), of which, 4028.02 square miles (10432.52 kmē) of it is land and 1058.69 square miles (2741.99 kmē) of it is water, it is the largest in terms of geographical size. It is ranks third in the size of its inland waterways in Hawaii.

As of the census of 2000, there were 148677 people, 52985 households, and 36903 families living in the county. The population density was 36.9 people per square mile (14.25/kmē), it is Hawaii's fourth most densely populated county. There were 62674 housing units at an average density of 15.6 per square mile (6.02/kmē). The average household size was 2.75 and the average family size was 3.24. The population's age distribution was 26.1% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 26.2% from 25 to 44, 26% from 45 to 64, and 13.5% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 100.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.7 males. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 175784, The racial makeup of the county was 67822 White, 1933 Black or African American, 1274 American Indian, 41234 Asian, 19613 Native Hawaiian, and 43908 from two or more races.
