Hawaii is one of the state of United States, located towards the Western Region (Pacific) of United States. According to the latest population census dating back to 2000, the Hawaii is home to 1211537 inhabitants. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 1288198, giving it the ninth smallest population among United States. The state spans an area of 10930.98 mi˛ (28311.11 square kilometre), of which, 6422.62 square miles (16634.51 square kilometre) of it is land and 4508.36 square miles (11676.6 square kilometre) of it is water, making it United States's eighth smallest by total area. It is ranks 13 in the size of its inland waterways in United States.

As of the census of 2000, there were 1211537 people in the state, organized into 403240 households, and 287068 families living in the state. The population density was 188.6 people per square mile (72.82/km˛), it is the 13th most densely populated state in the U.S. state of America. There were 460542 housing units at an average density of 71.7 per square mile (27.68/km˛). It has an average household size was 2.92 persons, and the average family size was 3.42 persons. In the state the population is diverse age-wise, with 24.4% under the age of 18, 9.5% from 18 to 24, 29.9% from 25 to 44, 22.9% from 45 to 64, and 13.3% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 101 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 99.4 males. The median age of the state's population was 36.2 years, the median age of male residents at 35.1 and the median age of female residents at 37.4. The state's estimated population as of July 2008 was 1211537, The racial or ethnic makeup of the state was 24.28% White, 1.82% Black or African American, 0.29% American Indian, 41.59% Asian, 9.37% Native Hawaiian, 21.41% from two or more races and 1.25% Other races.
