Hastings City is a United States city located in the Adams County, Nebraska, United States. The city has a population of 24064 as per the 2000 census data. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 25394, It is the seventh largest in terms of population. It covers total area of 9.96 sq mi (25.8 sq km), of which, 9.83 square miles (25.46 sq km) of it is land and 0.13 square miles (0.34 sq km) of it is water, it is the eighth largest by area in the U.S. state of Nebraska. It is ranks ninth in the size of its inland waterways in Nebraska.

As of the census of 2000, there were 24064 people in the city, organized into 9610 households, and 5952 families living in the city. The population density was 2448.5 people per square mile (945.37/kmē), it is Nebraska's 24th most densely populated city. The racial or ethnic makeup of the city was 93.39% White, 0.79% Black or African American, 0.42% American Indian, 2.02% Asian, 0.04% Native Hawaiian, 0.96% from two or more races and 2.39% Other races.
