Hartford City is a one of the Minnehaha County, South Dakota, located in Midwestern Region (West North Central) of United States. The population of the city was 1844 as per the 2000 census data. Its population was estimated at 2436 in July 2008, It is the 41st largest by population in the U.S. state of South Dakota. The city has a total area of 1.49 mi˛ (3.86 square kilometre), giving it the 86th largest by total area among South Dakota.
