Hartford City is one of the city of Hartford County, Connecticut, located towards the Northeastern Region (New England) of United States. According to the 2000 census it had a population of 121578 inhabitants. The July 2008 population estimate is 124062, making it Connecticut's third largest. Its area is just over 17.97 mi˛ (46.54 square kilometre), of which, 17.31 square miles (44.83 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.66 square miles (1.71 square kilometre) of it is water, giving it the 20th largest by total area among Connecticut.

As of the census of 2000, there were 121578 people in the city, organized into 44986 households, and 27189 families living in the city. The population density was 7025.5 people per square mile (2712.56/km˛), it is the second most populated city in terms of population density. There were 50644 housing units at an average density of 2925.7 per square mile (1129.62/km˛). The average household size was 2.58 people, and the average family size was 3.33 people.
