Hart County is one of the 159 county of Georgia, located towards the Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. As per the 2000 census, county has a population of 22997 inhabitants. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 24278, It is Georgia's 74th most populous county. It has total area of 256.42 square miles (664.12 square kilometre), of which, 232.21 square miles (601.42 square kilometre) of it is land and 24.21 square miles (62.7 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 40th smallest by area in the U.S. state of Georgia. It is ranks tenth in the size of its inland waterways in Georgia.

As of the census of 2000, there were 22997 people, 9106 households, and 6615 families living in the county. The population density was 99 people per square mile (38.22/kmē), it is Georgia's 48th most densely populated county. There were 11111 housing units at an average density of 47.8 per square mile (18.46/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.47 persons, and the average family size was 2.92 persons. In the county the population is diverse age-wise, with 23.5% under the age of 18, 7.7% from 18 to 24, 27.3% from 25 to 44, 25% from 45 to 64, and 16.5% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 97 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.7 males. The July 2008 population estimate is 24278, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 19193 White, 4709 Black or African American, 40 American Indian, 160 Asian, 1 Native Hawaiian, and 175 from two or more races.
