In July 2008, its estimated population was 15222, It is 53rd most populous county in Iowa. It covers total area of 700.93 square miles (1815.4 sq km), of which, 696.72 square miles (1804.5 sq km) of it is land and 4.2 square miles (10.88 sq km) of it is water, it is the 15th largest by area in the U.S. state of Iowa.
