The census designated place has a total area of 23.75 square miles (61.51 kmē), of which, 14.3 square miles (37.04 kmē) of it is land and 9.45 square miles (24.48 kmē) of it is water, making it Michigan's 30th largest by total area. It is ranks fourth in the size of its inland waterways in Michigan.
