Harper County, Oklahoma


Harper County is one of the 77 county of Oklahoma, located towards the Southern Region (West South Central) of United States. The county has a population of 3562 as per the 2000 census data. In July 2008, its estimated population was 3290, giving it the third smallest population among Oklahoma's county. Its area is just over 1040.96 square miles (2696.07 square kilometre), of which, 1039 square miles (2691 square kilometre) of it is land and 1.96 square miles (5.08 square kilometre) of it is water, making it Oklahoma's 17th largest county by total area.

As of the census of 2000, there were 3562 people, 1509 households, and 1030 families residing in the county. The population density was 3.4 people per square mile (1.31/kmē), it is the fifth least densely populated county in the U.S. state of Oklahoma. There were 1863 housing units at an average density of 1.8 per square mile (0.69/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.33 persons, and the average family size was 2.87 persons. In the county the population was distributed as follows: 23.3% under the age of 18, 6.4% from 18 to 24, 23.4% from 25 to 44, 25.2% from 45 to 64, and 21.7% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 96.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95.2 males. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 3290, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 97.05% White, 0.03% Black or African American, 1.16% American Indian, 0.09% Asian, 0.09% Native Hawaiian, and 1.58% from two or more races.
