Harlan City is a city located in the Harlan County, Kentucky, United States. It is home to over 2081 people (2000 census). The July 2008 population estimate is 1864, It is the 161st most populous in the U.S. state of Kentucky. The city extends throughout a territory of 1.75 square miles (4.53 kmē ), it is the 198th largest in terms of geographical size.
