Hardinsburg City is one of the city of Breckinridge County, Kentucky, located towards the Southern Region (East South Central) of United States. As of 2000 the population was 2345. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the city is 2433, giving it the 154th largest population among Kentucky. The city comprises an area of 3.63 square miles (9.4 sq km), of which, 3.56 square miles (9.22 sq km) of it is land and 0.06 square miles (0.16 sq km) of it is water, it is the 116th largest by area in the U.S. state of Kentucky.

As of the census of 2000, there were 2345 people in the city, organized into 964 households, and 583 families residing in the city. The population density was 658.1 people per square mile (254.09/kmē), giving it the 121st least densely populated city among the Kentucky. There were 1078 housing units at an average density of 302.8 per square mile (116.91/kmē). The average household size was 2.19 persons, and the average family size was 2.83 persons. In the city the population was spread out, with 20.3% under the age of 18, 10.3% from 18 to 24, 25.4% from 25 to 44, 23.6% from 45 to 64, and 20.4% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 115.5 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 117.7 females. The median age is 40.3 years, The median age of males was 36.7 years, for females the median age was 44 years. The racial makeup of the city was 2112 White, 202 Black or African American, 4 American Indian, 2 Asian, Native Hawaiian, 22 from two or more races and 3 Ohter races.
