Hardin County is a county in the United States of Ohio. In 2000, the population was 31945. Its population was estimated at 31948 in July 2008, making it the 17th least populous county in Ohio. The county extends throughout a territory of 470.54 miē (1218.69 kmē ), of which, 470.29 square miles (1218.05 kmē) of it is land and 0.25 square miles (0.65 kmē) of it is water, it is the 39th largest by area in the U.S. state of Ohio.

The population density was 67.9 people per square mile (26.22/kmē), it is the 14th least populated county in terms of population density. In the county the population was spread out, with 24.3% under the age of 18, 15.4% from 18 to 24, 26% from 25 to 44, 21.3% from 45 to 64, and 12.9% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 104.2 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 107.8 females. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 31948, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 31087 White, 321 Black or African American, 86 American Indian, 169 Asian, 1 Native Hawaiian, and 284 from two or more races.
