Hand County, South Dakota is a county of the United States of South Dakota. In 2000, county's population was 3741 inhabitants. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 3274, making it South Dakota's 21st smallest county. It covers total area of 1440.21 mi˛ (3730.13 square kilometre), of which, 1436.58 square miles (3720.73 square kilometre) of it is land and 3.63 square miles (9.4 square kilometre) of it is water, makes it the 19th largest by total area in South Dakota.

The population density was 2.6 people per square mile (1/km˛), it is South Dakota's 16th least densely populated county. In the county the population was spread out, with 24.6% under the age of 18, 5.1% from 18 to 24, 22.3% from 25 to 44, 23.8% from 45 to 64, and 24.2% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 96.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.9 males. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 3274, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 3250 White, 1 Black or African American, 7 American Indian, 4 Asian, 0 Native Hawaiian, and 12 from two or more races.
