Hancock Town, Maryland


Hancock Town is a town in the Washington County, Maryland, United States. According to the latest population census dating back to 2000, the Hancock Town is home to 1725 inhabitants. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the town is 1743, It is the 120th least populous in the U.S. state of Maryland. Its area is just over 2.72 sq mi (7.04 sq km), of which, 2.7 square miles (6.99 sq km) of it is land and 0.02 square miles (0.05 sq km) of it is water, making it Maryland's 197th largest by total area.

According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 1725 people, 735 households, and 462 families residing in the town. The population density was 637.8 people per square mile (246.26/kmē), it would be the 70th least densely populated town in the U.S. state of Maryland. There were 803 housing units at an average density of 297.4 per square mile (114.83/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.3 persons, and the average family size was 2.86 persons. In the town the population was spread out, with 24.5% under the age of 18, 9.5% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 21.9% from 45 to 64, and 15.8% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 113.2 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 123.7 females. The median age was 36.5 years, the median age of male residents at 34.2 and the median age of female residents at 38.5. The racial makeup of the town was 98.26% White, 0.35% Black or African American, 0.35% American Indian, 0.06% Asian, 0.12% Native Hawaiian, 0.75% from two or more races and 0.12% Other races.
