Hancock County is a one of the county from Kentucky's 120 counties, located in Southern Region (East South Central) of United States. In 2000, county's population was 8392 inhabitants. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 8663, It is the 16th smallest county by population in the U.S. state of Kentucky. It has total area of 198.92 sq mi (515.2 sq km), of which, 188.8 square miles (488.99 sq km) of it is land and 10.12 square miles (26.21 sq km) of it is water, giving it the 17th smallest by total area among Kentucky's county.

The population density was 44.4 people per square mile (17.14/kmē), it is the 76th most densely populated county in the U.S. state of Kentucky. There were 3600 housing units at an average density of 19.1 per square mile (7.37/kmē). The average household size was 2.59 people, and the average family size was 3.01 people. In the county Population was distributed with 26.7% under the age of 18, 8.5% from 18 to 24, 29% from 25 to 44, 24.9% from 45 to 64, and 11% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 97.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95.8 males. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 8663, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 8475 White, 89 Black or African American, 24 American Indian, 14 Asian, 0 Native Hawaiian, and 61 from two or more races.
