Hampton County is a United States county located in the United States of South Carolina. According to the latest population census dating back to 2000, the Hampton County is home to 21386 inhabitants. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 21075, It is the seventh smallest county by population in the U.S. state of South Carolina. The county has a total area of 562.63 miē (1457.21 kmē), of which, 559.78 square miles (1449.82 kmē) of it is land and 2.85 square miles (7.38 kmē) of it is water, making it the 29th largest by size in South Carolina.

For every 100 females there were 103.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 103.9 males. In July 2008, its estimated population was 21075, The racial makeup of the county was 43.69% White, 55.24% Black or African American, 0.24% American Indian, 0.26% Asian, 0.01% Native Hawaiian, and 0.57% from two or more races.
