Hampshire County is a United States county located in the United States of West Virginia. It is home to over 20203 people (2000 census). As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 22574, making it the 31st most populous county in West Virginia. The county encompasses an area of 644.62 mi˛ (1669.56 sq km ), of which, 641.72 square miles (1662.05 sq km) of it is land and 2.9 square miles (7.51 sq km) of it is water, making it West Virginia's ninth largest county by total area.

For every 100 females there were 99.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.3 males. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 22574, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 97.42% White, 1.46% Black or African American, 0.21% American Indian, 0.24% Asian, 0.02% Native Hawaiian, and 0.65% from two or more races.
