Hammond City is a city located in the Lake County, Indiana, United States. In 2000, the population was 83048. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 76732, It is sixth most populous in Indiana. The city encompasses an area of 24.83 sq mi (64.31 sq km ), of which, 22.88 square miles (59.26 sq km) of it is land and 1.95 square miles (5.05 sq km) of it is water, giving it the 15th largest by total area among Indiana. It is ranks ninth in the size of its inland waterways in Indiana.
