As of July 2008, the estimated population of the city is 5807, It is the 103rd largest in terms of population. The city comprises an area of 5.14 sq mi (13.31 sq km), of which, 5.05 square miles (13.08 sq km) of it is land and 0.09 square miles (0.23 sq km) of it is water, it is the 173rd largest by area in the U.S. state of North Carolina.
