Hamilton County is a county located in the United States of New York. In 2000, county's population was 5379 inhabitants. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 5021, It is least populous county in New York. Its area is just over 1807.81 sq mi (4682.21 sq km), of which, 1720.39 square miles (4455.79 sq km) of it is land and 87.41 square miles (226.39 sq km) of it is water, giving it the fifth largest by total area among New York's county.

As of the census of 2000, there were 5379 people in the county, organized into 2362 households, and 1558 families living in the county. The population density was 3.1 people per square mile (1.2/kmē), giving it the least densely populated county among the New York. There were 7965 housing units at an average density of 4.6 per square mile (1.78/kmē). The average household size was 2.24 and the average family size was 2.74. In the county the population was spread out, with 19.7% under the age of 18, 5.2% from 18 to 24, 24.2% from 25 to 44, 30.9% from 45 to 64, and 20% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 100 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 99.4 males. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 5021, The racial makeup of the county was 4926 White, 32 Black or African American, 17 American Indian, 6 Asian, 3 Native Hawaiian, and 37 from two or more races.
