Hamilton County, Kansas is a county located in the Midwestern Region (West North Central) of United States. As of 2000 the population was 2670. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 2631, making it Kansas's 15th smallest county. The county encompasses an area of 997.62 sq mi (2583.82 sq km ), of which, 996.49 square miles (2580.9 sq km) of it is land and 1.13 square miles (2.93 sq km) of it is water, makes it the 17th largest by total area in Kansas.

The population density was 2.7 people per square mile (1.04/kmē), making its Kansas's sixth least densely populated county. There were 1211 housing units at an average density of 1.2 per square mile (0.46/kmē). The average household size was 2.49 people, and the average family size was 3.09 people. Age range in the county was well distributed with 28.4% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 25.3% from 25 to 44, 20.9% from 45 to 64, and 18.4% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 97.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.6 males. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 2631, The racial makeup of the county was 96.73% White, 0.68% Black or African American, 0.49% American Indian, 0.53% Asian, 0.38% Native Hawaiian, and 1.18% from two or more races.
