Haines Borough is a borough located in the United States of Alaska. As per the 2000 census, borough has a population of 2392 inhabitants. The borough's estimated population as of July 2008 was 2271, It is sixth least populous borough in Alaska. The borough spans an area of 2725.82 sq mi (7059.84 sq km), of which, 2343.73 square miles (6070.23 sq km) of it is land and 382.09 square miles (989.61 sq km) of it is water, it is the fourth smallest in terms of geographical size.

As of the census of 2000, there were 2392 people in the borough, organized into 991 households, and 654 families residing in the borough. The population density was 1 people per square mile (0.39/kmē), it is the 12th most densely populated borough in the U.S. state of Alaska. There were 1419 housing units at an average density of 0.6 per square mile (0.23/kmē). The average household size was 2.41 and the average family size was 2.94. In the borough the population was spread out, with 25.6% under the age of 18, 5.3% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 30.4% from 45 to 64, and 10.5% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 97.5 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 97 females. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 2271, The racial makeup of the borough was 1859 White, 7 Black or African American, 278 American Indian, 16 Asian, 2 Native Hawaiian, and 109 from two or more races.
