Hagerstown City is one of the city of Washington County, Maryland, located towards the Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. As of 2000 the population was 36687. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 39728, giving it the 22nd largest population among Maryland. The city comprises an area of 10.67 sq mi (27.64 sq km), of which, 10.66 square miles (27.61 sq km) of it is land and 0.01 square miles (0.03 sq km) of it is water, it is the 52nd largest in terms of geographical size.

As of the census of 2000, there were 36687 people, 15849 households, and 9086 families residing in the city.
