Guttenberg City is a city located in Clayton County, Iowa, in the Midwestern Region (West North Central) of United States. As per the 2000 census, city has a population of 1987 inhabitants. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 1913, making it Iowa's 158th largest. The city extends throughout a territory of 2.09 square miles (5.41 square kilometre ), of which, 2.06 square miles (5.34 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.03 square miles (0.08 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 181st largest by area in the U.S. state of Iowa.

As of the census of 2000, there were 1987 people in the city, organized into 837 households, and 534 families living in the city. The population density was 962.3 people per square mile (371.55/kmē), it is 354th most densely populated city in Iowa. There were 935 housing units at an average density of 453.9 per square mile (175.25/kmē). The average household size was 2.21 persons, and the average family size was 2.77 persons. In the city the population was spread out, with 21% under the age of 18, 6% from 18 to 24, 22.6% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 26.2% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 113.2 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 116.9 females. The median age was 45.3 years, The median age of males was 43.1 years, for females the median age was 47.4 years. The racial makeup of the city was 1965 White, 9 Black or African American, 1 American Indian, 3 Asian, Native Hawaiian, 8 from two or more races and 1 Ohter races.
