Gulf County, Florida is a county located in the Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. According to the 2000 census it had a population of 13332 inhabitants. Its population was estimated at 15667 in July 2008, It is the tenth least populous county in the U.S. state of Florida. The county comprises an area of 744.59 sq mi (1928.48 square kilometre), of which, 554.6 square miles (1436.41 square kilometre) of it is land and 190 square miles (492.1 square kilometre) of it is water, makes it the 40th largest by total area in Florida.

According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 13332 residents, 4931 households, and 3537 families in the county. The population density was 24 people per square mile (9.27/kmē), giving it the ninth least densely populated county among the Florida. There were 7587 housing units at an average density of 13.7 per square mile (5.29/kmē). The average household size was 2.42 persons, and the average family size was 2.87 persons. Age range in the county was well distributed with 21.7% under the age of 18, 6.8% from 18 to 24, 29.4% from 25 to 44, 26% from 45 to 64, and 16.2% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 114.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 116.7 males. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 15667, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 75.85% White, 21.58% Black or African American, 0.66% American Indian, 0.38% Asian, 0.06% Native Hawaiian, and 1.47% from two or more races.
